The new joint U.S. and Canada Oshwal Members Directory was printed in November, 2006 to coincide with the Annual Thanksgiving Gathering of Oshwals in the North East region of the USA. The Directory was distributed at the gathering. We mailed directories to all others either individually or to their regional representatives. You should have received your directory by now. President’s message inside 2006 Directory

On behalf of Halari Visha Oshwal of North America, I extend my sincere thanks to Satish and Surya Shah of Plano, Texas for taking on one of the very important task of maintaining the database for the directory for USA. I congratulate them on the publication of the third edition of the joint USA Canada Halari Visa Oshwal directory. I also thank all the sponsors for their contributions. Without their support, it would not have been possible to publish the directory.

We all want to keep in touch with each other, and maintain our culture and rich heritage. Directory is one of the most important tools, among many tools we have, to fulfill our desire and goal. Many of you know I have a very special and personal attachment to the directory project.

I know many of us in North America and around the globe use the directory for various useful purposes: to find the Oshwal in the region where our child may be attending a school, to find long lost friend or relative, and to find a suitable match, to name a few.

This Directory will be very useful to all the 8000 Halaris of the entire world in getting in touch with each other as & when information require. Our Institution “Oswal Yatrik Gruh” at palitana started on 1st July 1974. Since its inception till now it has progressed exemplary well.

President’s message inside 2003 Directory

On behalf of the Executive Committee of Halari Visa Oshwals of America, I wish to thank Satish and Surya Shah, and Mahendra Shah and Ramnik Shah of Oakville, Ontario, Canada who took on the task of updating the joint USA and Canada Halari Visa Oshwal Directory. This is the third edition of the directory published for the benefit of the Oshwal members and the worldwide Oshwal community. By having this directory, it will make it easier for Oshwal members to communicate with fellow Oshwals and to develop closer contacts with each other.

The first USA Oshwal directory was published in 1996. Jayanti Galaiya of New Jersey and Manu Shah of Maryland spent countless hours in collecting information and developing a database. Satish Shah and Rajesh Shah processed the data and arranged for printing and distribution. Since then Satish and Surya have kept the data base current by entering changes or additions requested by members. I wish to applaud their sincere dedication and selfless community service.

Oshwal Directory Information

We try to keep addresses of all members up to date in our database so that when we are ready to publish the next edition of the Directory in 2004, we will not have to contact members to confirm their addresses.

Moreover, HVONA mails out newsletters and last time nearly 20 HVONA newsletters were returned because these members had moved and had not advised us of their new address. We encourage all members to inform us of changes to their addresses, additions to their families or any other changes or additions they would like to make. Also, please encourage other Oshwals and their families (we list all those whose one family member is of Oshwal origin) to list themselves in the Directory by visiting our web site and completing the Directory Update form under the Directory section at this website.

The Oshwal Directory that lists Oshwals residing in the USA and Canada was published in June 2000. At that time we had listed 209 families in the USA and 107 families in Canada. Our continuously updated database lists 234 families in the USA. We plan to publish a new directory by June 2004. In the mean time, we are providing below a short listing of new members and changes in address and telephone number of existing members. We will provide a copy of the directory to all new members free.

We request all members to advise us of changes and additions in their listing by e-mail or by completing the membership form available in the USA Central Section of the World Oshwal Federation web site at or the Halari Visa Oshwals of America site at .

We are delighted to announce that a joint U.S.A. and Canada Oshwals Directory has been recently published and distributed to Oshwal families living in the two countries and several Oshwal institutions in Kenya, United Kingdom and India. The purpose of this Directory is to provide opportunities for our members to network with other Oshwals. Oshwals are proud of their very rich heritage and culture, and their tradition of caring and sharing. The excellent progress Oshwals are making in all fields through out the world is due to these special qualities.

The Directory updates listings of several families and adds many new families since the U.S.A. and Canada Directories were published nearly four years ago. 209 Oshwal families are listed in the U.S.A. and 107 families in the Canada sections. If you know of any Oshwal family, where at least one member is of Oshwal origin, that has not been included, please ask the family to complete the form for the USA or Canada included at the end of this Directory and send it to the address noted on the form. In a few cases, we have deleted entries for members whose addresses could not be confirmed. If you are not able to reach a member at the number published in the directory, you can verify the person’s number on the Internet by visiting several sites listed at the end of this section.

We have included e-mail addresses for those members that were available to us. Please send any missing e-mail address to us so that we can advise members of any special events and send changes to this Directory by e-mail. Also, it would be helpful if members would keep us advised of any changes in the listing including addresses and telephone numbers.

We are thankful to several Oshwal families in the U.S.A. and Canada for their technical, moral and financial support. As a result of the sponsors’ generous support we are able to provide one copy of the Directory to each listed member and new members free.

It gives us great pleasure to publish this edition of the Oshwal Directory. We are indeed fortunate to be part of the Halari Visa Oshwal family. Our heritage, culture, sense of caring and sharing, and our concept of community are remarkable and each one of us should nurture, contribute to and feel proud of being part of this family.

The purpose of this Directory is to not only continue our Oshwal heritage but to provide opportunities for members to network, to socialize and to provide a convenient resource to identify other Oshwals for sharing our values. We are successful wherever we settle because we:

Create a better understanding of our culture;
Address the problems faced by the members collectively;
Appreciate different ideologies;
Provide an environment for individuals to grow; and
Work together to learn and respect those around us.

To this end, we have an annual gathering in the east coast and these gatherings are well attended by Oshwals living in the region. We would like to encourage more regional gatherings and, if there is sufficient interest, a gathering of all Oshwals living in the USA and Canada somewhere in Central USA once every two or three years.

We have tried to include all the Oshwals that we were able to identify through their family members or friends, but we believe that there are many more Oshwals who are not included because we do not have information about them. We hope to revise and update this Directory in about two years. Our objective is to include all Oshwals living in the USA. Therefore, we request you to provide the family profile form included in this Directory to any Oshwal who would like to be included. Also, to keep the Directory up-to-date, please note any changes on the form and mail it to Surya and Satish Shah of Plano, Texas.

Young Oshwals are encouraged to use the information in this directory to develop their own network of Oshwal friends. If there is sufficient interest, additional information on Oshwals studying in colleges and universities, particularly the details of their studies, could be included in the next directory.

Acknowledgments

It has been a long time and all of you have waited patiently. We hope it was worth waiting. Without your cooperation, it would not have been possible to gather the data and publish it in a form of a Directory.

I would like to thank Mr. Manu Shah of Hanover, MD for his continuous support and push for the project. We must thank Mr. Satish Shah of Plano, TX who spent a lot time and effort to identify members missed during my search and the latest updates on the changes in family status. The initial database was a Lotus spreadsheet. It was converted into an Access database by Manu Shah. The database restructuring and populating the database was also done by Manu. Rajesh Shah of Carrollton, TX did the final design of the database and Satish Shah did the final editing of the data. I am thankful to Raju Shah of Hanover, MD for the design of the cover page. Raju did an excellent job of incorporating flags of both India and USA in designing the cover.

We are thankful to Mr. Veni Sumaria of Reading, MA who started a pioneer effort for the Oshwal Directory many years back. We also must not forget to thank all the well wishers for their generous financial help to make this project happen. We have listed all these families.

I thank my wife Vijya who supported this project with my long hours on telephone and computer. I am very pleased to present this Directory to our community. I hope it will be useful to all of us here and abroad.
