Wisconcin Oshwal Rep Priti Shah requested to have a gathering with Illinois Oshwals, to celebrate Mother’s Day at India House Restaurant, in Schaumburg, Illinois. Approximately 24 Oshwals met on May 13th 2007, had a wonderful time with 3 generations of families. We all enjoyed the grand Mother’s Day Buffet of 100 items. This was very much enjoyed by all of us and the best thing was that all the MOTHERS really relaxed with their loved ones. We would like to encourage other Oshwal families to hold such occasions and have a chance to meet each other. We (Smita Shah and Priti Shah) know that it helped all of us to enjoy,relax and made a great outing for us. We are going to plan more activities, I would like to thank Priti Shah for putting this occasion together. Great Job Priti.

Congratulations to Reena Dipak Shah, (daughter of Smita and Dipak Shah of Lemont, Illinois) who graduated from North Illinois University with a Bachelors of Science /Marketing. She is a very caring individual, who helps others. Congratulations to Reena for a job done well. Reena will be pursuing a career in Marketing/Management.

Raxita Manish Shah, 51, passed away after brief illness in Birmingham, England. She was cousin (Kaka’s daughter) of our president, Jayanti Galaiya of Long Valley, New Jersey.

Madhuben from Leominster MA, while having a prayer for her Father-in-law in early April at the Jain center, noticed that the Jain center needed to be cleaned up. So, she contacted one of the authorized person at the Center and asked if she could volunteer to clean up the Center. Once she recieved permission, she created volunteer team. They painted the wall, cleaned up the shelves, and did many other things, which you can see in the pictures. Thanks to Madhuben for her good thinking.

Hiren Gudka, son of Kamala Gudka and nephew of Debbie and Veni Sumaria from Boxford, Massachusetts graduated Magna Cum Laude from University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth with Bachelor of Science degree.

Texas and Oklahoma Oshwals met on May 6th for the annual picnic at Russell Creek Park in Plano, Texas from 4 to 8 pm. There were about 35 adults and 12 children. We had a forecast of thunderstorm and showers, but the Oshwals braved the chances and fortunately, it turned out to be a beautiful and perfect picnic weather. Everyone had volunteered for food which included Indian and Mexican appetizers, fruit platter, pizza dinner, ice cream and cup cakes. Fun activities included all time favorite volley ball, kites, sand box and couple game. Such gatherings help our community unite and everyone enjoys it as well.

Sneha Shah from Nashua, New Hampshire, is graduating Magna Cum Laude from Springfield College, Massachusetts, with a Bachelor of Science in Movement in Sports Studies with a concentration in Physical Education, on May 13th. She will be a licensed Physical Education teacher and is going on to do her Master of Science in Health Education in September at Springfield College.

Puja Shah from Nashua, New Hampshire, is graduating with High Honors, from Nashua High School North in June 2007 and will be attending Bentley College in Waltham, Massachusetts in September 2007.

Maulee Tolia (daughter of Nila and Atul Tolia), and Sachin Shah (son of Anila and Gulab Khimchand Shah) became proud parents of baby boy Saavan in January 2007, in Chicago, Illinois.

Shah) and Nihaal Rao (son of Suman and Mohan Rao) became proud parents of baby girl Bella in Phoenix, Arizona, in April 2007.

Congratulations to Nina and Sachin Desai of Phoenix, AZ, on the birth of their healthy, beautiful baby boy. Dilan Desai was born December, 2006, at 19 inches and 6 lbs, 5 oz. Dilan is the grandson of Ila and the late Anilkumar Khimchand Shah of Chestnut Ridge, NY, and Daxa and Narendra Desai of York, PA.

Belated congratulations to Bena Shah on her graduation from The Harvard Business School in June 2006. Bena is currently working in Marketing at the Estee Lauder Companies. She is the youngest daughter of Ila and the late Anilkumar Shah of Chestnut Ridge, NY and married to Abhay Patel of Farmington Hills, MI.

Puriben Meghji Virji Chedda recently celebrated her 100th birthday. Originally from Changa (near Jamnagar), Gujarat, India, she lived in Madagascar for a few years, returned back to Changa, and currently resides in Nairobi, Kenya. She has 5 sons, 3 daughters, and an extended family of 108, who celebrated her centennial birthday at the Oshwal Center in Nairobi. Read the rest of this entry »
