We had a picnic on the Father’s Day as is almost a tradition for us now. We had a record 67 Oshwals attended the picnic. The previous attendance record was held at same location four years ago. The location is central to the metro NY area Oshwal community. It was an excellent day with fun filled activities.

Congratulations to parents Purvi and Neil Sanghvi and big sister Anya of Englewood, NJ, on the recent birth of baby boy, Ayden N. Sanghvi. Ayden was born weighing 6lbs. and 9oz. Proud Grandparents are Dinesh and Varsha Shah of St. Louis, MO and Kishore and Bharati Sanghvi of Piscataway, NJ.

This year, we planned a dinner event to celebrate Father’s Day on June 20th, 2010, at Taste of India Restaurant in Willowbrook, Illinois.

We had approximately 25 people attend the event. All the families had enjoyed a Indian dinner buffet, had excellent time catching up with each other and enjoyed the conversation. Everyone enjoyed the Father’s Day dinner because it was a very relaxing Sunday for all. In true celebration of Father’s day, many of the children treated their families to this special event.

We had planned to meet at Russell Creek Park in Plano, TX on May 15th, for our annual picnic. However, the weather forecast was favoring a thunderstorm. But, most of our members showed up and fortunately the weather turned out to be perfect by 4pm. We had few appetizers and then ordered Pizza for all. Children and adults enjoyed dodge ball, charades and a walk in the park. We were happy that we could meet and have a wonderful time.

Sohini and Sean are very excited to announce the recent arrival of their baby girl, Kyleena. The proud grandparents are David and Diane Stone from Nashua, NH, and Sudhir and Jyotsna Shah form Santa Clara, CA, and proud aunt Heather from Nashua, NH.

Dilip Shah was honored by the Measurement Science Conference with the 2010 Woodington Award in Pasadena, California on March 25, 2010. This award is intended to honor those individuals who personify the highest level of professionalism and dedication to the metrology community. The Woodington Award, since its inception in 1978, has been an annual award under the aegis of the Measurement Science Conference. It is awarded by the Conference to recognize a member of the Measurement Community who represents the highest level of professionalism and dedication to the Metrology Profession. Mrs. Jayaben Meghji Devraj Shah of Nairobi, Kenya passed away on the 24th of March, 2010. She was the mother of Rashmi, mother in law of Jayant and grandmother of Sawan and Risha who live in Saratoga, California. She is also the mother of Pankaj and Dilip of Nairobi, Kenya.

Our heartiest wedding congratulations to Heena (daughter of Ramila & Suryakant (Sudhir) Shah of Ballwin, Missouri) and Brian (son of Mary Ann & Ronald Phillip Griffin of Suffolk, Virginia) who got married on February 20, 2010 at the Days Inn Eureka Ballroom, in Eureka, Missouri. The wedding celebrations started on Friday with Mehndi followed by Mandovo, Christian wedding and lunch on Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon, there was a traditional Indian wedding followed by cocktails and dinner. The reception included a traditional toss, cake cutting, and dancing throughout the night. Family and friends came from the UK and all over the USA. The evening was beautiful and everyone had a wonderful time while celebrating until midnight.

Hitesh K. Malde of Vasai/Santacruz, Mumbai, India, passed away on February 13th, 2010, in India at the age of 52. He was brother of Meena C. Shah of Springfield NJ.

Our deepest condolences to the family of Late. Smt. Narmdaben Dhanji Maru who passed away on February 16, 2010 at Mulund, India.  She was 66 years old and suffering from pancreatic cancer.

Keshavji Kachara Dodhia of Vasai  and Bhivandi passed away recently in Thane, Indiaa at the age of 83. He was brother-in law (banevi) of Keshav and Kanchan Shah of Chestnut Ridge, NY; Harakhchand and Jyoti Shah and Mansukh and Mina Shah all of Budd lake, NJ; Pushpa and Shantilal Jankharia of Hackettstown, NJ; and Vijya and Jayanti Galaiya of Long Valley, NJ.

I would like to thank our community for electing me as the president for HVO of USA, and to serve on the Executive Board. On behalf of all Halari Visa Oshwals, I sincerely would like to thank our outgoing executive committee members for their excellent work for the past two years.

Election for the executive committee was held during the Northeast Area Thanksgiving Gathering on Saturday, November 28, 2009, in South Plainfield, New Jersey. Presently, we have six committee members and we need odd number members for majority voting. Assistant treasurer position was eliminated to make a five member committee. Several nominations for various positions were received and executive committee was elected. There was no nomination for assistant secretary position so it was kept open to fill from other areas. After discussing with one person, this position was filled. We wish our incoming committee all the best and a great success. We ask you all to support and help them to make us more visible in the Oshwal-world.

Our 24th annual northeast area Thanksgiving Gathering was held on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Ramada Inn, in South Plainfield, New Jersey. Despite bitter cold and windy weather, we had a good turnout of 70 plus people including children. The event was entirely sponsored by thirteen families. A wholehearted thought goes a long way.
